about

The instrumental, produced by Zacharie Ksyk, was originally composed for his jazz group. For that reason, there exists another version of this song called *Mirage" by Mohs.

Ksyk brought this track to us in its raw original draft format, the version he had originally pitched to Mohs., and offered us to reinterpret it as a rap song. The vibe was so different from what we usually do, but also so vast and profound, we were immediately inspired.

lyrics

[Intro: Evita Koné]
Everybody's got a past
Getting kissed by the sands
Of the hour glass
And the scars, they show
Who makes friends with the ghost

[Chorus: Evita Koné]
And when the dust settles
Are you rust or are you petals?
When the dust settles
Are you rust or are you petals?

[Verse 1: Dr Koul]
Never did what I was told
Always on my own, even when I was at home
Found a way to roam,
The great outdoors, even when I was at home
Raindrops on window panes
I could stay locked in but disobey
Cartoon thoughts when I’m at a concert
Daydream much? Now I know it’s concrete
Never did what I was told,
Reinterpret orders, diminish rewards
But long-term goals didn’t know I’d fostered
Could bring discordance
Both parents born the Year of the Rat
The metal horse wants the great wide open
And can’t be stopped, reared-in or broken
When I look back, realize it was hopeless
Never did what I was told
Follow a path in the grass to the fjord
Laid out by ancestors crossing before
Melodies played by guitars and the oud
Let there be love because music’s the food
Never did what I was told
But what once grew, now will grow anew
But what once grew, now will grow anew
But what once grew, now will grow anew

[Verse 2: Imagine]
Save us
We’ve been afraid, can’t turn a page
Make us
Believe in fate, it’s not too late
Please save us
We’ve been afraid, can’t turn a page
Make us
Believe in fate, it’s not too late
Wanna believe in love, but we don’t dream enough
We gotta get back to the essence, let’s believe in us
Tell them they’re capable, show them the way to go
And they will shine like suns, smiling with a face of gold

[Chorus: Evita Koné]
And when the dust settles
Are you rust or are you petals?
When the dust settles
Are you rust or are you petals?
